Topsail Addiction Treatment

Alcohol misuse, abuse, and addiction are some of the most serious public health crises that currently afflict the United States. While popular culture has long downplayed the seriousness of alcoholism, it’s nothing to laugh about; alcohol misuse is the third leading cause of preventable death in the United States.

Alcoholism is becoming an even greater problem in Manchester, New Hampshire, as many people have turned to alcohol to cope with the stress of the 2020-2021 health and economic crisis. If you or a person that you know is struggling with alcoholism, consider reaching out to Topsail Addiction Treatment to join our alcohol rehab program.

While there are many models of addiction, modern science has brought more support to the idea that it’s not just a matter of dependency. Rather, addictions such as alcoholism tend to occur as a result of many complex factors. Some are genetic and innate, but environmental risk factors also have an incredibly strong correlation with alcohol abuse and other substance use disorders. Trauma, financial hardship and mental illness are often the drivers of alcohol misuse, and a person suffering from substance use problems often finds their way into a social circle that enables this self-destructive behavior.

These issues often arise in traditional inpatient rehab settings that focus on getting a person through withdrawals and then sends them back into the world, which contributes to rising relapse rates. While addiction is a disease and requires medical intervention to safely get someone through withdrawals, detoxing isn’t the same as recovering from drug addiction. Rather, residential rehab that allows a person to get through withdrawals in a safe, secure setting is simply the first, hardest step in the process of recovery.

At Topsail Addiction Treatment, we don’t offer inpatient residential alcohol rehab. While that’s an important service, we focus on everything that comes next through our set of outpatient alcohol rehab programs.

What is Outpatient Alcohol Rehab?

At the most basic level, outpatient alcohol rehab can refer to any program where the patient continues to live at home for the duration of the process. Depending on their support needs and how far along they are in recovery, the exact nature of an outpatient alcohol rehab program can look very different.

Partial Hospitalization (PHP)

Partial hospitalization (PHP) care is similar to residential addiction treatment when it comes to the amount of time and effort you commit to rehab, with the chief difference being that you go home at the end of each day. However, the two other types of outpatient alcoholism treatment provide progressively greater amounts of free time and deliberately make sure that patients have sufficient freedom to receive care and hold down a job simultaneously.

Partial hospitalization isn’t suitable for someone going through severe withdrawals; in that case, you need constant medical supervision that you don’t have when you’re going home each night. However, it’s suitable for someone going through severe cravings, post-withdrawal symptoms, and those who need some level of inpatient care. In comparison to residential inpatient rehab, PHP allows you to experience some freedom and can help you through challenges that you’d go through alone if you didn’t join an outpatient rehab program.

Intensive Outpatient Care (IOP)

An intensive outpatient program (IOP) entails multiple hours-long visits to our facility each week for counseling, group sessions, therapy and other forms of alcoholism rehab. While it’s still a considerable commitment, we schedule our IOP sessions in the morning and evening to be as convenient to our patients as possible. Once you complete PHP care and move onto IOP or standard outpatient care, you’ll find yourself with enough time to return to work and start repairing any damage that alcohol addiction caused to your social life.

Standard Outpatient Care

People often find themselves facing relapse risks a few months or a year after withdrawals. Unexpected hardship can come up, a friend might attempt to pressure them into alcohol consumption, or any other number of problems can arise. Recovery is often fragile in this period, and many people appreciate the enduring support of rehab professionals that they’ve come to know and trust. Long-term, low-intensity outpatient care provides you with a baseline level of support as you put the pieces of your life back together.
