Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)* in Massachusetts
Full-Day treatment programs, often called “partial hospitalization programs” or “PHP” by insurance companies is the highest level of drug and alcohol treatment in an outpatient setting. Consisting of 5 to 6-hour sessions 5 days a week, the intensive day program at Topsail has been created to help patients with significant addiction, and substance abuse issues. It is well suited for individuals who are either beginning their rehab journey or as a transition for people who have recently completed inpatient addiction treatment (PHP is usually the next step after detox and/or residential treatment is complete).
How Does Full-Day Addiction Treatment Work?
While full day programs (PHP) are tailored by our professional and clinical staff to meet the needs and background of the patient, a typical treatment plan consists of sessions at Topsail 5 times a week for between 5 to 6 hours each day.

Individual Therapy
During individual therapy at Topsail, patients meet with a master’s level, licensed therapist in a discreet one-on-one setting. This allows patients the individual one-on-one attention to work on their specific challenges and behaviors with direct input from trained professionals who will recommend strategies to help them succeed. -
Group Therapy
Group counseling sessions are moderated by a professional and encourage patient participation and activity in peer discussions. Group Therapy sessions cover a variety of topics that are pertinent to the patients’ recovery and provide peer support and interaction. -
Aftercare Planning
Our highly trained team will evaluate your progress and work with you to develop a realistic aftercare plan for when you complete full day treatment. This plan may consist of relapse prevention tactics, coping strategies, and setting up continued support in outpatient and other group activities after your day therapy program is over.
